HOW WILL I KNOW?

DO I NEED A ROOT CANAL?

A root canal is necessary when your tooth has become infected. Typically, teeth become infected when a serious cavity destroys the tooth’s layers of enamel and dentin, or an oral injury cracks or breaks the tooth. When this happens, the vulnerable pulp inside your tooth becomes exposed to bacteria.

The pulp, which is filled with blood vessels and nerves, will then become infected and start to die. This is why a toothache is such a common symptom of an infected tooth. A root canal from our office in Stamford, CT is the best option for treatment. Dr. Byungchul Park or Dr. GiTae Kwon will open up the tooth, clean the inside, then fill and protect it to restore your smile and prevent further complications

RECOGNIZING THE SIGNS

SYMPTOMS OF AN INFECTED TOOTH

The most common and noticeable sign of an infected tooth is a serious, prolonged toothache. You may feel throbbing or radiating pain from the tooth. It also may feel more sensitive to hot and cold foods, as well as the pressure of chewing.

‍In some cases, the gum tissue around the tooth may look inflamed or irritated, or the tooth itself may become discolored. Other more rare signs include swelling of the face and cheek, or a fever. If you recognize one or more of these signs, you should get help from a Stamford dentist right away.

 WHAT TO EXPECT FROM

ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

Root canal treatment takes a single, 1-2 hour appointment at Clear Smile Dental Studio. First, Dr. Park or Dr. Kwon will begin by cleaning and numbing your mouth. Next, your tooth will be trimmed to remove damaged enamel, and to create a small opening in the tooth.

‍Through this opening, Dr. Kwon or Dr. Park will remove the decayed and damaged material from the inside of your tooth. Then, your tooth will be cleaned and sanitized, and filled with an inert substance that replaces the pulp and strengthens your tooth roots. Finally, your tooth will be restored. Dr. Kwon and Dr. Park may choose to use a filling or a dental crown, depending on the location of your tooth.
